Aveling Road Roller

Burgh of Grangemouth

owned by Richard Mawdsley

No 7673, Reg. JH 2739

built by Aveling & Porter, in 1912.

New to the Burgh of Grangemouth in 1912 but requisitioned by the War Office during the 1914-1918 War. It was sold on by the Disposals Commision after the war to Ware U.D.C. Herts. It was aquired by A.E.Bridge & Son of Essex in the 1930's.

Alex Stuart purchased it in 1972 and brought it to Walmer Hall, Dob Lane, Little Hoole, near Preston. It was sold on to Barry Smith at the same location.

The roller was purchased by the present owner in a semi-derelict condition at an auction in 1988. It was first steamed again after six years work which included complete overhaul of the boiler and many other parts. Missing parts were either made or were found through advertising in journals.

Travels to all events under its own steam at a steady 5 m.p.h.
