Burrell Road
Roller
Samson
owned by Mark Walker
No 4069, Reg RL 9960
built by Charles
Burrell, in 1929.

Supplied new to Dingles of Cornwall. As far as it is known spent all its
working life in Dingles ownership. It was first restored by Jack
Meaker, and the present owner bought it in 1986 from Andy Wicks who did
not have it for very long.
Failed its boiler test in 1999.
The owner plans to collect the new firebox at the end of February (from
Andy Melrose of Mendip Steam and Salvage Squad fame).
The tender is ok,
and the inside has been coated with Copon Hicoat (a
water industry spec epoxy), but had to make a new access to do this and
the
coal partition has been replaced.
A new piece has been welded in the back head and the boiler has also had a
new foundation
ring as the old wrought iron one laminated.
The steam chest has 3 radial cracks from the safety valve bolt holes which
will require metal locking.
The headstock has the rear corners broken off, and it is not yet clear
whether it
will be salvageable, or whether a new one will have to be cast.
The aim is to have the boiler sealed by the end of this year and all
painted
and tickty boo by the end of next year.
There is still deliberation as whether to add a 1/2 length canopy
