The Lancashire Traction Engine Club, which was founded in 1965, is now constituted as a company limited by guarantee and registered as a charity. The objects of the Club include advancing the education of the public by increasing and maintaining interest in historic steam and other mechanically propelled vehicles, other historic machinery and historic crafts and craftsmanship. Meetings are held on the first Sunday in each Month, except May, June, July, and August, at Flixton Conservative Club, Abbotsfield, Flixton Rd, Flixton M31 3DF. Meetings commence at 8.00 p.m. and consist either of authoritative lectures on subjects of interest to preservationists or of "natter nights" where members can see slides and films, or simply sit and talk. A quarterly Newsletter is published to keep members informed of Club activities, steam rallies and other subjects of interest. The Club also runs its own rally jointly with Urmston and District Model Engineering Society at Abbotsfield Park, Chassen Road, Flixton, where each year around 20 full sized engines attend as well as miniatures, fairground organs, fair rides, cars, motor bikes, commercials, stationary engines, tractors, and trade stands.
